Jan 14, 2023
In the last decade, as China has leaped to become the world's second-largest economy, Chenghai has been crowned the "toy capital of the world" by the media, Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported on Jan. 5. Today, Chenghai has become the center of the world's toy market, with some 12,000 toy manufacturers and more than 130,000 workers.
China is the undisputed leader in toy manufacturing and export: it accounts for about 75% of the global toy supply, with Chenghai alone accounting for nearly 30%. Many of the toys from this region arrive in the Spanish port of Valencia by cargo ship just before Christmas. Spain imports about 70 percent of its toys from abroad, mainly dolls and plush toys, from China.
In Chenghai, Xie Weichuan, an executive of toy manufacturer Guangdong Yuxing Technology Industry Co., said the production lines of local toy companies were running 24 hours a day before Christmas to meet the demand, which has remained at a high level. Xie Weichen said Chenghai developed a new online display and ordering platform in 2020 that helped sell more than 2 million toys, which were sold to more than 100 countries and regions.
